The Haunted Retreat Where the Real Horror Wasn't a Ghost

On October 10, 1997, a group of teenagers decided to explore St. Anne's Retreat, a long-abandoned property in Logan Canyon, Utah. They had heard stories about ghostly nuns, hidden graves and sinister events supposedly connected to the retreat, so they went onto the property to see it for themselves.

As the group wandered through the property, they were caught by three armed men who claimed to be security guards. The men tied up the teenagers, forced them to kneel and threatened them at gunpoint. After moving the group into the house, the men looped a continuous cord around their necks and told them it was detonating cord that would explode if any one of them moved.

For hours, the guards terrorized the group, holding them captive and making them believe they were in real danger. Eventually, the guards themselves called the police and turned the teenagers over for trespassing.

But there was a problem. What the guards had done to the teenagers was far more serious than simply removing trespassers from private property.

Even worse, this apparently wasn't the first group they had detained. Earlier that same day, the men had reportedly done the same thing to two other groups of people who had entered the property.

Needless to say, the guards were arrested for their actions, including the unlawful detention and assault of the teenagers. And yes, the trespassers faced charges too.

The teenagers had gone to St. Anne's Retreat looking for ghosts and frightening stories. Instead, they encountered something much more real: armed men who held them captive and convinced them that moving could get them killed.

For a place already surrounded by stories of ghostly nuns and hidden graves, what happened that night added another disturbing chapter to the legend of St. Anne's Retreat—except this time, there was nothing supernatural about it.
